The flash fire was quickly extinguished, running out of fuel. FOR THE WARRIOR EMPEROR!" His lungs burned as his hand writhed in agony, the fire cauterizing the wound closed. The Emperor is the salvation of the galaxy, and I am one of his many tools. Any brother who calls for aid will be helped. Any Xenos who threats the Grand Imperium will be crushed. Any heresy I find will be cleansed from this galaxy. Any Demon I see will be slaughtered where they stand. "I am Captain Spire of the Imperial Navy. Knowing the pain to come, he began to recite one of his many oaths to the Emperor. The priest began to smear gunpowder across the hemorrhaging wound. "Sir, if we are to treat your wounds properly, we must remove you to the med bay." Spire waved away the suggestion. "YES CAPTAIN!" The eager man saluted, and marched out of the ruined room. Commander Anderson, launch your troops as soon as we are in range." "Navigator, take us along side these heretics, and give them a broadside. Despite the damage, neither side was willing to back down. The entire port side weaponry had been annihilated, and the mighty prow lance severed from the hull. Two engine cylinders had been shot off, floating peacefully in the void. The Embers of Discontent fared little better. Turrets had been melted into slag, and deep cuts scored her hull. The proud eagle had been destroyed when the prow had collapsed from one unlucky hit.

The Hammer of the Emperor belched fire from its decks. The battle clearly had taken much out of the combatants. After that the combined firepower of the Hammer of the Emperor and Space Station Aleph will destroy the Heretic Vessel. Anderson's men will board the Embers of Discontent and seize the data. Ships being heavily damaged is par for the course. I don't have any problem though with the damage being taken. Right now I just want to remove the excessive crits. I will say that in these small battles, luck definitely plays a large roll, so I may make further adjustments based on that. I already have some later battles in mind with specific strategies that can be used to win. I think that in larger scale battles tactics will have a much more prominent role in deciding victory or defeat. I agree that I don't want luck to be the main deciding factor in this.

Most of theses first battles are going to involve me fine-tuning the combat system to see what works. I'm definitely going to have to rework the damage system a little so these crits happen less often.
